Guidelines for Application for Financial Aid

The Scottish Heritage Society of Eastern North Carolina is dedicated to the perpetuation and enjoyment of the history and culture of Scotland and particularly to those bits of Scotland in the hearts and minds of her descendants in eastern North Carolina. It is, therefore, one of the prime objectives of the Society to support activities of an educational nature, which promote our common Scottish Heritage. The Society has funds to support some aid to those ends.

Financial aid is limited to residents of the area of Eastern North Carolina served by this Society. Applications will be accepted from July 1 to December 1. Each year a Financial Aid Committee will examine any applications for aid and make its recommendations to the Board. The Board will act on the recommendations of the Committee and will notify the applicant of its actions. No sitting member of the Scottish Heritage Society Board may apply for nor shall be granted financial aid or scholarship from the SHSENC Financial Aid fund.

The application should be accompanied by a tentative budget indicating the total cost of the project, the private funds available to the recipient, other aid applied for or granted, and the percentage of the total costs of the project represented by the funds of the Society. If the financial aid is requested for two or three years, a renewal application must be made at the beginning of each year and a summary of each year's activities and a projection of the following year's work should be included.

Each aid recipient must submit a summary of the year's activities, including significant achievements, relevant exhibits, and a brief financial statement of the use of Society funds.

A final summary report should be presented to the Board at the end of the project. Such a report could include written material, recordings, videotape, slides, etc., which would become part of the Society's library holdings.
